We have departed from the truth about who we are and have become something other than what God intended for us as those made in His image. The Vertical Self is a course corrector that steers the reader back toward his true identity. We are being called upward from eternity forward.
Thomas Nelson Publishing provided me with a complimentary copy of the book, The Vertical Self by Mark Sayers. This is the first title I’ve ever read by Mr. Sayers but I can say with confidence that he just went on my list of favorite authors. As a pastor, I ate this book up and spit it out with gusto…simply put--this book preaches. Mr. Sayers does a fabulous job of building to a crescendo of powerful thoughts. Whereas a lot of books of this genre lose steam after 3 or 4 chapters, to skip the later parts of this book would be to miss the quintessential elements and most powerful truths. This book challenged me, inspired me, and provoked me. Thanks Mark, I needed this.
